Cypress is a city located near the northern border of Orange County. Though it is a suburb of Los Angeles, it has many resident industries. As of May 2005 estimates, the city population was 48,863. The Los Alamitos Race Course, which is actually located in Cypress, was once home to the only harness racing in Southern California.

In the 800 acres set aside by the City for a business park are a diverse array of well known companies including PacifiCare, Minolta, Fuji, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Mitsubishi, and Yamaha.

In addition to ordaining high standards of development and providing for business in the business park master plan, Cypress delivers a streamlined planning and review process to "fast track" business and development projects whenever possible.

Another factor contributing to Cypress business growth is that most of the open land in the business park is held free and clear by a handful of landowners whose roots run deep in the community.

Cypress has one of the best school districts in southern california. Students in nine elementary schools consistently score at least two years above grade level and exceed national and state averages on standardized tests in basic skill areas.  The District has always concentrated on maintaining small school enrollment and low class size as a means of achieving excellence.  Experienced, energetic and competent teachers are the backbone of the system.  The average teacher has been in the District for over fifteen years.   Each of the nine schools has met the criteria necessary to be named a "School of Excellence."

Cypress College is a community college located in Cypress, California. Opened on September 12, 1966 , the southern California college offers a variety of general education (51 associates degrees), transfer courses (58 transfer majors), and 139 vocational programs leading to Associate's degrees and certificates.

By a vote of the people in 1949, the Recreation and Park District was founded to provide park and recreation facilities for residents in the area.  Today there are 17 individual parks spread throughout Cypress.
